Education
The Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) Programme is a leadership programme that aims to empower young people to report on local environmental issues, giving them a sense that they can really make a difference in the world.
Active in Mauritius since 2019, YRE gives young people a platform to research environmental issues and promote solutions through investigative reporting, photography, and video journalism. It is a network of passionate young people educating the community about sustainable development by producing and engaging in creative and critical thinking environmental journalism.
The programme develops participants’ skills and knowledge about the environment, enhances communication and citizenship skills, individual initiative, teamwork, critical analysis, social responsibility, and leadership abilities.
The annual YRE National Competition is without a doubt one of the highlights of the YRE programme. Every year, the most inspiring and creative entries from the National Competition, open for young people aged 11-25, compete at the international level and have the chance of being recognized on a global scale.
YRE uses a tried and tested four-step methodology:
Develop powerful communication, initiative-taking thinking, and critical analysis skills through storytelling, photography, and videography. Learn from experienced professionals and get noticed by decision-makers in the environmental sector.
YRE allows you to lead environmental causes you care about. Your YRE reports can spark positive change, inspire others to act and even influence policy makers.
YRE equips you with the skills and confidence to organise events, raise awareness, and inspire others to protect our planet. You will connect with local organisations, decision-makers, and even become a mentor for aspiring environmental advocates in your community.
YRE gives you a safe and supportive platform for freedom of expression. Allowing you to have a real impact on environmental issues you care about.
YRE equips you with knowledge that are highly sought-after in the environmental sector job market and develops a strong foundation of skills for a future green career.
