Bis Lamer is an innovative and interactive mobile education unit designed to help audiences discover the coastal and marine environment of Mauritius through a holistic and immersive approach. Since 2014 this one-of-a-kind platform brings marine conservation directly to communities, schools, businesses, and authorities, making environmental education accessible and engaging.

As a pedagogical tool, Bis Lamer plays a key role in outreach efforts, showcasing the different components of research and restoration projects aimed at preserving Mauritius’ rich marine ecosystems. Through tailored sensitisation sessions, it fosters awareness and action among diverse stakeholders, including the private sector, local communities, civil society organisations, and government bodies.

The Sensitisation team helps individuals understand the environmental challenges the world faces, such as climate change, biodiversity loss, deforestation, and pollution. By raising awareness, it encourages people to think critically on the interconnectedness of ecosystems and about the impact of human actions on the environment.

Environmental sensitisation help people to make more eco-friendly choices in their daily lives, such as reducing waste, conserving water and energy, recycling, and choosing sustainable products. This contributes to the overall reduction of environmental footprints.

The team further empowers individuals and communities to take proactive steps in environmental conservation efforts, such as participating in beach clean ups, tree planting, biodiversity audit campaign and ecosystem field trips. This engagement fosters a sense of ownership in protecting the environment.

Sensitisation aligns with broader environmental conservation efforts, contributing to the achievement of global sustainability targets, such as those outlined in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (GOAL 13: Climate Action, SDG 14: Life Below Water, GOAL 15: Life on Land).
